Megan Conner, Runner and Personal Trainer

Featured on the cover of the latest issue of Nashville Fit Magazine is Megan Conner, a woman of MANY talents – and she’s an Eat Well ambassador too! After graduating from Baylor University with a degree in theater, Megan moved to New York City to pursue her dream of acting. But five days after moving, she walked into one of NYC’s premier fitness clubs and landed a job as a personal trainer. From there she went on to teach and manage fitness programs at several other elite fitness centers in the city.

If that wasn’t enough, in 2006 Megan moved to Nashville to pursue another passion of hers: music. But that didn’t stop her love of everything fitness. She’s trained at Takes 2 Fitness, Barry’s Bootcamp, and several other gyms around the city. Oh yeah, and she also runs marathons.

Megan is a firm believer in the huge impact healthy eating and fitness can make. “I have seen so many lives changed through exercise and by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. To have the opportunity to be a part of this impactful industry has truly been one of the most amazing and important things that I have done in my life thus far.”

3 Last-Minute Healthy New Year Resolutions

2018 has been in full swing for a few days now, and undoubtedly, a lot of resolutions have already failed. Whether it was New Years Day brunch or the large iced vanilla latte and pastry you grabbed rolling back into work the day after, you are not alone if your resolution to be a healthier you failed as soon as it began.

Nevertheless, my favorite thing about a new year rolling around is that the whole month of January basically feels like a fresh start – and it’s never too late to commit to making a few more manageable healthier choices that are not only easy to stick to for longer than a week, but can lead to a whole year of a healthier, happier you.

Ready for a change? These are 3 of my favorite healthy choices that you can easily make in the new year to help you kickstart your commitment to being healthier and happier in 2018. Give them a try and let us know what you think!

  1. Reset your digestive system + fall in love with natural food.
My belief that diets don’t work comes from personal experience. I’ve tried every diet under the sun and let me tell you something… They don’t work, and it’s because they’re diets – not lifestyle changes. What actually works? Changing your habits. Processed, sugary food is extremely addicting, making dieting and changing your habits harder than it should be. One of the quickest ways to break that addiction and force yourself to develop healthier habits is by resetting your digestive system. Rid your body of toxins, reintroduce fresh, natural food, and let your body tell you what it really wants and doesn’t want.

My personal recommendation: give Whole30 a try! It broke my soda and sugar addiction, taught me more about healthy food than I could have imagined, and helped me develop a healthy lifestyle leading to losing 65 lbs in less than a year. Learn more about Whole30 here and check out our Whole30 menu here!

Whole30 not your thing? Ramp up your reset with a supplement designed to help your body detox, like this all natural 15-day cleanse.

  2. Break up with processed food.
Don’t get me wrong; I love a salty, greasy, crunchy bag of potato chips as much as the next person. Unfortunately, my body feels differently – and your body probably feels the same way too. Eating processed food leads to a whole slew of dangerous health problems like obesity, chronic fatigue, diabetes, high blood pressure, and more. Scared yet? You should be.

If you eat processed food regularly, I won’t lie: breaking up with it will be tough. While Whole30 is one of the best ways to detox and kick the habit, you can also start by cutting out one processed item a day and replacing it with natural, whole foods. My favorite healthy food hack: avoid eating anything that has ingredients you can’t pronounce or easily find at Whole Foods or Turnip Truck.

P.S. That’s also why we always include nutritional information and an ingredients list for all of our all natural, freshly cooked meals that you can find on our menu :)

  3. Cut out sugary drinks.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned throughout my health journey is how sugary drinks can totally destroy your body, even if you eat healthy food and exercise regularly. While it’s a tough habit to kick (sugar addiction is real, y’all) because of how addicting sugar is, there are tons of healthier options to replace your favorite sugar drink. My favorites: Everly and La Croix.

Replacing my afternoon soda with Everly has helped me maintain my blood sugar levels and avoid the inevitable post-soda sugar crash. Plus, it’s created with all natural ingredients AND it’s local company. You can even add one to your next Eat Well order here! And if you need a daily fizz fix like I do, La Croix is the way to go. Also made with all natural ingredients (and Whole30 approved!), it comes in TONS of flavors and you can even add some fresh fruit or coconut water to it to add some natural sweetness.

Moral of the story: Even if you just make one tiny habit change a week, that’ll lead to a year of healthier choices. It’s not too late to make 2018 your healthiest, happiest year yet.

Help Us Give Back To St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!

We’re so grateful to have been able to make contributions to some wonderful nonprofits this season, and it’s all been thanks to you! We’re rounding out the season of giving with a featured meal to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Giving + Grub… It’s what the holiday season is all about!

$1 from every Garlic Parmesan Chicken Tenders ordered now through December 15th will be donated to help St. Jude in their mission to end childhood cancer! Click here to place your order benefiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital or continue reading below to learn more about their mission!

The story of St. Jude begins with Danny Thomas: a man who, during a tough time in his life, prayed to the patron saint of lost causes for a sign to point him in the right direction. He promised that in exchange, he would someday build a shrine to St. Jude. After some time and much success in his own life, he decided the best way to thank the saint of the hopeless was to build a hospital to care for the most helpless of all: children with hopeless diseases.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was opened in 1962 based on the dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life” and that no child should be turned away because of their family’s inability to pay. No matter how poor the child’s family, their religion, or their race, the doors to St. Jude are always open. Since 1962, they’ve helped improve the survival rate of childhood cancer from 20% to 80%! St. Jude is leading the way that the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

In addition to the world class research conducted at St. Jude, all donations make it possible for no family to ever receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all they should worry about is helping their child live. St. Jude is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, but many of their patients live right here in Nashville. Attend an event in Nashville, volunteer locally, or make a donation here!

Join Us In Giving Back This Season With GiGi’s Playhouse!

There’s a reason why this time of year is so magical, and we believe it’s the spirit of giving and the opportunity to express gratitude for all that we have. Here at Eat Well, we’re spending the holiday season giving back to the Nashville community that has given us so much!

Each week for the remainder of 2017, we’ll have a featured meal on our menu benefiting a Nashville nonprofit. $1 from each featured meal sold will be donated to a worthy local cause. Giving + Grub… Is there anything better?

This week, we’re partnering with GiGi’s Playhouse! $1 from every Chicken Pot Pie Soup ordered now through December 8th will be donated to help GiGi’s Playhouse in their work to change the way the world views Down syndrome and empower individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the Nashville community. Click here to place your order benefiting GiGi’s Playhouse or continue reading below to learn more about their mission!

When Nancy Gianni gave birth to GiGi, she made a promise to change the way the world looked at a person with Down syndrome. While sitting in a support group meeting for new parents of children with Down syndrome, she wondered why there wasn’t a place where families could go for resources and networking, and where kids and adults with Down syndrome could be the leaders. This is how GiGi’s Playhouse was born, as a place where families and individuals with Down syndrome can celebrate the diagnosis and work toward global acceptance.

Down syndrome is the largest chromosomal disability in the United States, yet it is the least funded. GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center offers free therapeutic and educational programming for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, empowering them by maximizing opportunities for daily achievement and lasting acceptance. Everything they do is to help show the world what individuals with Down syndrome are capable of achieving as students, co-workers, volunteers, friends, and valued members of their communities!

With volunteer opportunities and events like their annual Pajama Run, Golf Tournament, and Gala, there are plenty of ways to get involved with GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville. Attend an event, volunteer, or make a donation here!

Inside Look: Meet The Team + The Eat Well Kitchen

Not sure if you know this, but we take meal prep very seriously – and when you’re on a mission to help the community eat well and live better by delivering thousands of meals directly to your customers’ homes and offices every month, you’ve gotta have the right tools and the right team in place to make the magic happen.

Without our brand new, custom-built, tech-enabled commercial kitchen and our hardworking, meal-prep-obsessed team, we wouldn’t be able to fill your fridges every week. So… Let’s get the inside look into the heart of Eat Well: our team + our kitchen!

THE TEAM

No one has mastered meal prep better than Executive Chef Ryan and Sous Chef Sam. Ryan and Sam fearlessly lead our kitchen team full of foodies who care about more than just making yummy grub; they care about creating nutritious meals to give you the fuel you need to live your best life.

THE KITCHEN

And this is where the magic happens. To make sure we’re able to serve you the tastiest, freshest meals that will be just as yummy reheated in your microwave or oven as it is the moment our team is done preparing it, we built our very own kitchen designed specifically for this type of meal prep.

Check out a few fun facts about the Eat Well kitchen, and keep an eye out for events coming up soon for a chance to take a tour of the kitchen yourself!

  • Our kitchen is one of the largest commercial kitchens in all of Nashville
  • We have top-of-the-line technology (like the same ovens as Disneyworld) that allows us to cook large quantities of affordable and tasty meals quickly without having to compromise on quality or price
  • Our cooked meals stay delicious for up to 5 days from the day we deliver to your home or office! (P.S. We deliver our meals in insulated, ice-packed bags that will stay chilled for up to 8 hours, so you don’t even need to be home for delivery!)
  • Having a ton of space and high-tech equipment also allows us to serve a huge menu with tons of variety! We typically have 20-30 chef-created gluten-free, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, and family-size meals available, along with a customizable menu where you can build your own meals. We also introduce new items each week!
  • Starting next week, we’ll be the only meal prep delivery service in all of Tennessee that is an official licensed partner of Whole30 with a totally customizable Whole30-approved menu!

Hungry yet? Head over to the menu to place your order online and schedule delivery!

The Secret to Meal Prep

Meal prep: You can’t live with it, can’t live without it… but what you CAN do is let us do it for you.

Here’s 5 reasons why:

1. No More Recipe Planning! Thats right, folks. Your Pinterest boards can make way for more vacation dreaming, inspirational life quotes, and cute pictures of babies and puppies. No more of those #PinterestFail recipes that waste time and money!

2. Sayonara, Supermarket! Avoid the hassle of long lines, overpriced ingredients, and your three year old having a meltdown because they can’t get what they want from the candy aisle. You. Never. Have. To. Go. There. Again.

3. Get Your Weekend Back! Sundays should be for family, football, and relaxation. Ditch spending your entire day off in the kitchen and start doing literally anything other than cooking.

4. “I Really Love Doing Dishes” … Said No One Ever. Let’s be honest: the worst part about doing meal prep yourself is the mountain of dishes that comes along with it. Work smarter, not harder.

5. Spice Up Your Life! Unless you’re Bill Murray, no one wants to eat the same thing every day. Ability to choose from more than 1,500 Eat Well combinations each week? Yes please!

And if you’re still not convinced …. Use SOHUNGRY10 at checkout to try one of our meals for free and let the food speak for itself!

Pics Or It Didn’t Happen

This week we launched a new Instagram contest and could not be more excited to capture how our Eat Well family incorporates our meals into everyday life! If you’re still looking for some photo inspiration, check out our current top 3 favorite pics!

1. @liawentwhere

2. @shannonkoleen

3. @terrence615

3 Nashville Gyms To Help You Crush Your Fitness Goals

The second month of 2017 is fast approaching, and you’ve committed to creating the best version of yourself: a healthier, happier you. Now that we’ve helped you eliminate your meal prep time with our fresh and healthy meals delivered to your door (along with our new customizable menu!), you’ve got some extra time on your hands. So… What’s next?

As Elle Woods once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy.” Whether you’ve spent time crushing weights at the gym, pushing your body to its limits during yoga, or seeing just how far you can go during a morning run, there’s one thing we can all agree on: exercise, no matter how tough, makes us feel great.

The second step to a healthy, happier you? Find a workout routine that you love! For me, I found my routine in the last place I expected: fitness classes/group workouts. And before you completely rule out a group workout, hear me out: I get it! Fitness classes can seem daunting. I had the same thoughts most people do: “I’m not in shape enough for a group class! I’ll go when I’m more in shape”.

PSA: Getting “more in shape” is literally what a fitness class is for! Fitness classes are made up of people at various stages of their fitness journeys.

If you’re ready to get in shape and crush your health goals this year, we’ve got the inside scoop on a few of Nashville’s hottest workout studios. Each studio has an incredible team, a state-of-the-art facility, and a workout that will prove to be intense, rewarding, and leave you craving more.

Title Boxing Club: http://titleboxingclub.com/

Barre3:
http://barre3.com/

During class you will move through isometric holds, small range movements, and large dynamic movements.  Pro Tip: Make sure you dress in yoga-like attire that you will be comfortable in a variety of poses!

Barry’s Bootcamp: http://www.barrysbootcamp.com/
